DPFs & Retrofits

DPFs
What do they do? How do they work? Where do they go?
Why do I need one? How much do they cost?
What is a DPF?
A diesel particulate filter is classified as a wall-flow filter, containing alternating blocked channels that force exhaust gas through its porous walls, capturing PM. Diesel particulate filters are used for the reduction of (PM) particulate matter, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons. (a lot of PM = black smoke)
Where do DPFs go on my truck?
DPFs are installed in place of a muffler on diesel-powered equipment.
Why do I need a DPF?
To meet the ARB’s On-Road Heavy-Duty Diesel Vehicles (In-Use) Regulation
Background:
On December 12, 2008, the California Air Resources Board (ARB) approved a new regulation to significantly reduce emissions from existing on-road diesel vehicles operating in California. The regulation requires affected trucks and buses to meet performance requirements between 2011 and 2023. By January 1, 2023 all vehicles must have a 2010 model year engine or equivalent. see link http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onrdiesel/onrdiesel.htm
What is a retrofit?
"Retrofit" is the process of removing the original muffler and installing a DPF. A term coined by the ARB.
How much do they cost?
Customer name_________________________
The cost of an installed DPF varies by year, make, and model of truck & engine combination. There are also different types of DPFs that can greatly affect the cost. Generally speaking the price starts around $8500 for a "passive" unit and can run upwards of $18,000 for an "active regeneration" unit. No one can give you an accurate price until your truck has been "sized" for the correct DPF. "Sizing up" a truck is the process of gathering up the information needed to determine the correct DPF that will work on your truck.
Give us a call and we will set an appointment to do a survey to determine what DPF is needed and how much it will cost. There
is no cost for the survey!
